From the Desk of the President

We have concluded the 20th annual and final State Farm Run along with another long-time event—the Tabitha 10K Run (formerly Dorsey, then Novartis, then GSK) at Holmes Lake. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Tabitha will assume sponsorship of our 10-mile event in 2019 on a yet to be determined course and the 10K event at Holmes Lake will be discontinued. The Tabitha 10-mile run will occur during the same Saturday as the State Farm Run, so mark your calendars for March 30, 2019. Hopefully, the weather gods will look more favorably on this than they have in recent years.Although not a sellout, this year’s Lincoln National Guard Marathon & Half-Marathon was another resounding success. It included several scheduled appearances by Molly Huddle, an elite women’s marathoner and Olympian. Additionally, discretionary and directed funds totaling $32,122 were contributed to Project Purple and the Jayne Snyder Fellowship Grant, which is dedicated to pancreatic cancer research. This brings contributions over the last four years to a remarkable sum of $130,429.Following the marathon, the 40th annual Havelock Run for Charity, presented by Pinnacle Bank, was held on Saturday, June 2, under ideal conditions. Nearly seventy teams participated, resulting in $5,500 in contributions to local charities. In addition, all finishers received a commemorative 40th anniversary medal to help celebrate the occasion. Also, the LTC is very proud to award three $2,500 scholarships at LTC’s 5th annual college scholarship award program on Sunday, June 3, at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center. Details and photos from this event can be found here. The Lincoln Track Club now has awarded $53,500 to twenty-five aspiring track and field/cross country student athletes in its first five years of providing these additional financial aid awards. Those wishing to apply for a 2019 scholarship award may do so by obtaining an application from any Lincoln or Lancaster County high school head track or cross-country coach. All applications need to be submitted to the LTC Scholarship Committee by January 31, 2019, and up to six recipients will be selected to receive $2,500 each. Finally, we are about to jump into our hot, fun, summertime events. The ever-popular Lincoln Mile is approaching quickly on Sunday, July 8, with the rolling out of a new course, followed a week later by the Nebraska Football Road Race (formerly Uplifting Athletes). This is a name change only. Everything else stays the same. The Nebraska Football Road Race is LTC’s charity event as all runner fees collected by the university are donated to the pediatric brain cancer research efforts at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. LTC is the primary sponsor in partnership with the Nebraska football team and the University Athletics Life Skills Department. This is an especially fun time as the Husker football players will turn out to volunteer and socialize with all the participating kids and adults. The summer events will finish with the 2nd annual GSK 5K Night Run on Saturday, August 4, in Fallbrook. So come out and enjoy the coolness of an evening summer run, complete with a food truck at the finish line, a unique attraction enjoyed by all at last year’s inaugural event. As always, thanks for being a member of the LTC and for your ongoing commitment to the Lincoln running community. Your involvement enables the LTC to give back to the community in many ways. If you are not running an LTC event, please show your support by volunteering.Glen MossPresident, Lincoln Track Club
