Race Recap: Lincoln Running Co. Mile

New Course! New Records! The new and improved Lincoln Running Co. Mile did not disappoint runners nor the fans on July 8! We promised a fast course with fast runners, and we delivered. The heats started off with a BANG with the 50+ age group. All the usual suspects were on hand, but a couple newcomers stole the show! The heat was won by 53-year-old Brett Daugherty in a time of 5:33, but it was a 67-year-old and a 73-year-old who impressed us all! Sixty-seven-year-old Perry Linn of Corning, Iowa, ran a 5:51 mile, which age grades to 4:23. And 73-year-old-Lynn Rathjen of Grand Island ran a 6:14, which age grades to a 4:20 mile and would have won our men’s Elite Heat! A couple of amazing guys! Hopefully they will be back next year.On the women’s side of that heat Stacy Shaw ran a 5:52 to set the pace for the day! It took until the Elite Heat for a female to run faster than Stacy’s time. But fast they ran! Shalaya Kipp, hot off her 4th place finish in the steeple chase at the USATF Nationals two weeks prior edged LRC’s Katie Wetzstein for 4:52.04 to 4:52.21. To say that was a photo finish is an understatement!A total of 340 people ran the mile that day, and 150 were under 10 years old! We encourage high school runners and you to join the fun! Putting yourself on the line for a road mile can be a bit uncomfortable—until you are done and then you just feel like a boss!Get out and try the Lincoln Running Co. Mile in 2019 and own that day! Thanks to Saucony for all the cool giveaways and fun that they provide! See you in July in 2019!Complete results are here!
