Race Recap: Holiday Run

It was a ruff year for the Holiday Run! With a soaking December rain that turned to snow Saturday night, the trail was soppy and a bit slippery in spots. But the scenery was a classic Holiday Run motif—so much so that as runners headed up Choo-Choo Hill, sledders took a slow slide down. The dogs won this year—as they always do! As the years go by, the dogs steal the show with their sweaters, scarves, down vests with hoods, collars of holiday lights and bows, and cute hats. Their glee at running, dodging, sniffing, stopping, sprinting, and trotting makes the route a bit of an obstacle course, but the best kind. The holiday wardrobe wasn’t left to the dogs—a family of Christmas presents was spotted at they ran through the trees! Elf hats, Santa shorts, sweaters—both ugly and Nordic—and other holiday attire was brought out for the morning. Thanks to Nellie’s Dog Treats for the “finishers medals,” which were yummy squirrel-shaped dog cookies with frosting! The humans were treated to plates of cookies and hot chocolate (so really, everyone won!).The weather didn’t deter. Around 250 runners showed up with 150 eager dogs, which means the Lincoln Track Club was able to donate $4,000 to the Capital Humane Society. Over the years, the LTC’s Holiday Run has generated more than $25,000 in donations to the Capital Humane Society—and a few dogs have gone home with new runners, the best gift a dog can get. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
