A portion of race entry fees went to benefit this invaluable community program initiative that delivers independence and allows seniors to live in the safety and comfort of their home longer. The event had something for all ages and skill levels—walking, running, racing competitively including a Kids’ Grand Prix fun run and warm-up for those training for the Lincoln Marathon. Participants were reminded throughout the course why they were running as key facts and figures about Tabitha Meals on Wheels were scattered along the course. The Tabitha race attracted major running enthusiasts including someone who epitomizes the race’s theme of “embrace aging,†Clarence Osborn, a ninety-nine-year-young Purple Heart recipient. With the help of Tabitha team members, Clarence led the way and completed the 2-mile route around the park. Over the years, he and his wife have taken part in countless races with Clarence running and his wife, Betty, volunteering. Clarence was the reason the Lincoln Track Club had to keep extending the age brackets for their events. He participated in his last big race, the Lincoln Half Marathon in 2008, at the age of ninety. The race was powered by a generous group of community volunteers, donors, and major sponsor Union Bank. For 2-mile and 10K results, click here.
