From the Desk of the President

As this newsletter is arriving in your inbox, the first snow is falling--putting an end to the relatively warm fall days. Plan to start your Thanksgiving Day at the Cooper Y with the Turkey Trot that supports the YMCA Strong Kids Program. Then, only the Holiday Run on Sunday, December 8 remains, on a revised Pioneers Park cross country course to benefit the Capital Humane Society. Please come out and support this last run of our 2019 season as a participant or volunteer. Then plan to attend LTC’s Annual Meeting extravaganza immediately following the Holiday Run at 11:30 a.m. at Lee’s Chicken, on the corner of Van Dorn and Coddington. The board decided a new date, time, and place for the Annual Meeting was in order. So, please plan to attend and renew your LTC membership for 2020 and see who will be receiving special recognition for distinguished achievement and service.Since the last newsletter, another highly successful Lincoln Mile was run under great weather conditions on its newly certified course by a record turnout of participants. Then the following Sunday, the Nebraska Football Road Race was run under similar conditions raising $39,348 for pediatric brain cancer research and treatment at the Fred and Pamela Buffet Cancer Center. Again, the course was newly certified and the turnout for this unique “fan day” was bigger and better than ever. Finally, the 43rd edition of LTC’s oldest continuously operating event, the Buffalo Run, enjoyed a rare top-ten record setting performance from LRC Nebraska team member Johnny Rutford. Indeed, this summer’s LTC events were resounding successes from many aspects. The board continues to work toward the implementation of changes to positively reflect on its Mission of Run • Connect • Give Back. So, enhancement of running opportunities are being examined to enable a running participant to enter a package of 2020 events during a onetime 24-hour promotion. Stay tuned for details! Furthermore, the kickoff for the 43rd Annual Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon will begin with Signup Saturday, hosted by the Lincoln Running Company at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4. Those signing up by midnight on Sunday, January 5, will receive signup swag from LTC. See below for the LTC events scheduled for 2020.As always, thanks for being a member of the LTC and for your ongoing commitment to the Lincoln running community. Your involvement enables LTC to Run • Connect • Give Back to the community in many ways. If you are not running an LTC event, please show your support by volunteering. In the meantime, enjoy the upcoming Holiday Season.Glen MossPresident, Lincoln Track Club
