From the Desk of the President

At the beginning of this year, I mentioned in my President’s Report that I was beginning my eighth year of serving as LTC’s president. At the time, none of us knew how challenging and impactful the year would be. We started off by systematically cancelling every event on the schedule of events and converting them to virtual runs. Then, with the arrival of the Lincoln Mile, Race Director Ann Ringlein postponed the event until August 9 and went about the herculean effort of successfully organizing a race in the middle of a pandemic to comply with the Lancaster County Health Department’s Directed Health Measures. Ann did this all over again with the Buffalo Run on September 20.

We were expecting similar results with LTC’s customary season ending event, the Holiday Run on December 6. Once again, the Capital Humane Society will be the primary beneficiary of the race’s proceeds. Additionally, the Cooper Y Turkey Trot in support of the YMCA Strong Kids Program, sponsored by LTC, on Thanksgiving Day was expected to happen. Then COVID cases began ratcheting up and the city’s health dial moved into the RED. Unfortunately, both events have been converted to virtual runs. So, we encourage you to please support the beneficiaries of each race and consider participating in one or both events. They need your support now more than ever.

Yes, it’s been a year of change, which many times can be a good thing. And the Lincoln Track Club has high expectations as well with a changing of the guard among its leadership team going into the next year. This will be my last President’s Report as I will be moving into the past president’s role to make room for LTC’s new president, Ryan Regnier. Additionally, Ann Ringlein will assume the role of 2nd vice president as Scott Brown steps into the vice president position. Our secretary will be Bobbie Kriz-Wickham replacing longtime secretary Michelle Bivens and the treasurer is Megan Brunken replacing Steve Loftis, who stepped down this past summer. So, in summary, LTC’s new primary Leadership Team for 2021 will be:

  • President: Ryan Regnier
  • Vice President: Scott Brown
  • 2nd Vice President: Ann Ringlein
  • Secretary: Bobbie Kriz-Wickham
  • Treasurer: Megan Brunken

In addition to the above officers, there will be seven new board members assuming various skill set positions as they replace veteran members who are resigning. As an all-volunteer organization, we thank those who have provided many years of service. At the same time, we are excited to welcome those coming on board to provide new ideas and new energy that will contribute to the culture of the LTC as it embarks into the realm of a post-COVID environment.

As I have done for the last eight years, I will sign off by thanking every one of you for being a member of the LTC and your ongoing commitment to the Lincoln running community. Your involvement enables LTC to Run • Connect • Give Back to the community in many ways. If you are not running an LTC event, please show your support by volunteering. And finally, from a personal standpoint, it’s been a good ride, and I am convinced LTC’s future is in good hands.
