Lincoln Mile Is On! August 9
The Lincoln Mile, a one-mile race that is held in beautiful downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, is scheduled for Sunday, August 9. The event, sponsored by the Lincoln Track Club and the Lincoln Running Company, is being held a month later than normal and will be the first road race hosted in the city under protocols designed to protect the health of both runners and volunteers from the threat of COVID-19.We are working closely with the City of Lincoln Health Department, so things will look a little different from previous years of this long-standing race. Nevertheless, the LTC is still planning for it to be a fast, flat, and fun event!Racers will go out in age-group waves from a starting line that will have a setup resembling lanes on a running track in order to help with social distancing. It will be bib timed, and the start will be somewhat staggered, so the clock time and even your placement in your wave as you come across the finish may not reflect your actual race time and place. We won’t be able to post results near the finish in order to keep people from bunching up, but we will get the results online as soon as possible after the race! We will email awards out to those who place. The Health Department has requested that runners only bring immediate family to the race, and spectators will not be allowed to stand near the start and finish lines. Don’t worry! There are many great vantage points from which to view the race and cheer the runners along the course! And with waves starting every 15 minutes, there will be plenty of racers to watch and cheer for.Packet pickup will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8 at the Lincoln Running Company. There will be designated time slots for pickup in order to maintain social distancing, and runners will select their pickup time when they register. Runners from outside of Lincoln can pick up their packet on race day in front of the Lincoln Running Co.Other changes include the availability of hand sanitation stations, which will be scattered throughout the race start and finish areas. Bottled water, rather than the traditional cups, will be available post-race.The Lincoln Track Club and the Lincoln Running Company are excited to host the first in-person, live racing event held in the city since March. There has been much thought and planning put into making this the safest event possible for participants. This unique, one-mile race experience is achievable for runners of all skill levels and all ages and offers an exciting opportunity to challenge yourself. Registration is now open. Get signed up today!
