From the Desk of the President

Fall definitely is in the air and our season of running events is coming to an end. The last race of the season is the Holiday Run on Sunday, December 3, on the Pioneers Park cross country course. Benefiting the Capital Humane Society, this is a fun event for everyone, including those who bring their four-legged best friends. However, your board already has been busy planning for 2018 with LTC’s event schedule published below. Be sure to mark your calendar for Sunday, January 7, and then set your alarm for the 3:00 a.m. opening of online registration for the 41st running of the Lincoln National Guard Marathon/Half Marathon on May 6, 2018.Since the last newsletter, LTC has made its way through the “meat” of its summer and fall running event schedule. The July Lincoln Mile and Uplifting Athletes events followed by the newly resurrected August GSK Orange Night Run, the 41st Buffalo Run in September, and the October Bryan Health Capital City Classic have proven to be very popular with the running community once again. We will be working diligently to improve the running experience provided by these events in 2018.As we continue to promote LTC’s mission of giving back to the community throughout the year, I want to remind you that LTC’s college scholarship applications are due to the LTC Scholarship Committee no later than Wednesday, January 31, 2018. This will be the fifth year that the LTC awards six $2,500 scholarships to six high school senior track and cross-country athletes. Applications can be obtained from any high school head track or cross-country coaches in Lincoln or Lancaster County or on the LTC website. On Sunday, January 28, LTC will hold its annual meeting at the Antelope Park Shelter. Attendance is open to all members and prospective members as we recap our 2017 events and recognize those who have displayed distinguished achievement and service. The evening begins with a Renewal Run at 4:30. Valentino’s pizza is served at 5:30, and our meeting agenda and awards program begins shortly afterward. Please plan to attend and renew your LTC membership for 2018.As always, thanks for being a member of LTC and for your ongoing commitment to the Lincoln running community. Your involvement enables LTC to give back to the community in many ways. If you are not running an LTC event, please show your support by volunteering. I trust your celebrations during the upcoming holiday season will be safe and may your goals and expectations be exceeded in the New Year.Glen MossPresident, Lincoln Track Club2018 LTC Schedule (tentative)State Farm Run | Saturday, March 24Tabitha Run | Saturday, April 7Mayor's Run | Saturday, May 5Lincoln National Guard Marathon & Half Marathon | Sunday, May 6Havelock Run | Saturday, June 2Lincoln Mile | Sunday, July 8Uplifting Athletes | Sunday, July 15GSK Orange Run | Saturday, August 4Buffalo Run | Sunday, September 9Capital City Classic | Sunday, October 21Holiday Run | Sunday, December 2
