Capital City Classic Race Recap

The 2017 Bryan Health Capital City Classic welcomed over 600 runners and volunteers aging from two to seventy-six! The race was held on Sunday, October 22, and featured a 1-mile kids’ run, 5K, and 15K. The event started and finished at the majestic Nebraska State Capitol. Runners and spectators were welcomed with entertainment from the band The Innocence, massages from Excel Chiropractic, and refreshments from Rita’s Ice and Sampson Construction.The overall top female finisher for the 15K was Brooklyn Swantek, 23, of Lincoln with an impressive time of 1:02:28. Melanie Fehringer, 25, of Omaha, took second with a time of 1:08:57, and Jackie Walford, 41, of Lincoln, was third with 1:10:34. Colin Morrissey, 28, of Omaha, won the men’s division with a time of 51:06. Tanner Brown, 23, of Lincoln, finished second with a time of 52:28, and Ryan Regnier, 41, of Lincoln, took third with 53:54. In the wheelchair division, Jason Kerkman, 45, of Lincoln, finished with a time of 1:03:33.The 5K overall top female finisher was Erica Doering, 27, of Elkhorn, with a finishing time of 18:16. Anna Hazard, 23, of Lincoln, was second with 18:38, and Adeline Hohman, 34, of Seward, came in third with 19:10. On the men’s side, Jacob Olson, 23, of Lincoln, took first with a finishing time of 15:48, Tim Meyer, 36, of Lincoln, came in second with 15:55, and Dylan Slaba, 24, of Brookings, South Dakota, was third with 16:10.This was the final race of the Kids’ Grand Prix and had 136 finishers. Easton Zastrow, 10, took first place with a time of 6:10. Taking second place was Jonah Reynolds, 11, with a time of 6:14. Lexi Anderson, 10, was the first girl with a time of 7:33, and Emily Tast, 7, was second with a time of 8:07.The Capital City Classic was also an RRCA 15K State Championship Race. In the women’s race, Brooklyn Swantek won the open division, Jackie Walford won the masters division, Mary Amen won the grand masters division with a time of 1:11:41, and Sue Wambaugh won the senior grand master division with a 1:26:49 finish. In the men’s race, Colin Morrissey won the open division, Ryan Regnier won the masters division, Craig Christians won grand masters with a time of 1:01:13, and Larry Dietrich took the senior grand masters division with a time of 1:14:42.Click here for complete results for all races.This event promoted both physical and mental health and wellness and raised over $20,000 for mental health education and awareness in our community.
