2015 Scholarship Recipients

LTC Awards $15,000 in Scholarships to Local Track and Field AthletesThe Lincoln Track Club will award six, $2,500 scholarships totaling $15,000 to local high school track and field athletes at the Sunday, June 7 board meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center, 250 N 21st Street. Scholarship recipients must plan to compete in cross country and/or track and field at the collegiate level and live in the Lincoln/Lancaster county area. The LTC established the scholarship program in 2013 to assist area track and field athletes with college expenses as athletic scholarship funds for track and field athletes are limited. This is the second year scholarships have been awarded.“For 40 years, the Lincoln Track Club has been about promoting the sport and giving back to the Lincoln community for supporting our events. Providing these scholarships is one area we felt could make a significant impact while encouraging high school athletes to continue with the sport at the next level,” said Glen Moss, LTC president. “It is my privilege to award the LTC scholarships to six outstanding athletes. Each recipient is very deserving of this award and I look forward to following their collegiate careers.”The scholarship recipients are:

• Alexis Altmaier from Lincoln East lettered in three sports and won three state titles. She competed in the 800, 1600, 3200 and 4x800 relay for the Spartan track and field team. She was named the female athlete of the year at East and was academic all-state. An accomplished swimmer, she competed against Olympic swimmers at the Texas Grand Prix and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Altmaier plans to run cross country at Creighton University where she will be a double major in biology and business. Her parents are Cyndy Ricketts and Robert Altmaier.
• Morgan Applegarth from Lincoln East ran track and cross country. She ran the 800 and 4x800 relay for the Spartans and was a member of the 2014 state-champion 4x800 relay which set the state record. Applegarth will run cross country and track at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and is an undecided major. Her parents are Maria and Allen Applegarth.
• Shelby Brown from Lincoln East finished her career a three-time state champion in Class A in the discus (2013 and 2015) and shot put (2015) and won the all-class gold medal in the discus in 2015. Brown was named captain of the 2015 all-city track and field team and medaled in the National Junior Olympics in the javelin (2011), discus (2013 and 2014) and shot put (2013). She lettered in three sports at East (volleyball, basketball and track and field) and was the 2015 KFOR Sportscaster of the Year Award Recipient. Brown plans to throw shot and discus at the University of Nebraska­–Lincoln where she will major in nutrition. David and Amy Brown are her parents.
• Frank Cuddy from Lincoln High ran cross country and track. He is a two-time cross country medalist and holds the school record in cross country for the Links. He ranks No. 2 all-time in the 1600 and No. 3 all-time in both the 800 and 3200 at Lincoln High and ran legs on the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Cuddy will run cross country and track at the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he plans to major in either sports management or education. His parents are Mark and Mary Cuddy.
• Logan Koenig from Lincoln East ran cross country and track. He was a member of the 2014 district champion cross country team and ran the 800, 1600, 3200 and 4x400 and 4x800 relays on the track team. Koenig will participate in cross country and track at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, where he will major in history and secondary education. His parents are John and Lynette Koenig.
• Amber Rouse from Lincoln Northeast ran cross country and track. She qualified for state in both cross country and track. She competed in the 300 hurdles and 400 as well as ran legs on the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Rouse will major in psychology at Doane College where she will run cross country and track. Her parents are Ron and Jennifer Rouse.

The Lincoln Track Club was established in 1975 by an eager group of track enthusiasts as a non-profit community service organization to promote running throughout the area and provide educational assistance for its runners. For 40 years the LTC has stayed true to its roots as a non-profit, all-volunteer organization and gave $126,217 back to the community including $6,000 in scholarships in 2014. The LTC is a member club of both the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and USA Track and Field.
