LTC Cancels Three Races

The Lincoln Track Club canceled three races in accordance with guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The canceled races include Tabitha Miles for Meals Run (March 28), KFRX Mayor’s Run sponsored by Sandhills Global (May 2), and the Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon (May 3).
“As an organization, we knew we had to cancel these races,” said Glen Moss, LTC president. “The safety and health of our runners, volunteers, and spectators was an important factor in this decision. Once the CDC released their event recommendations, we had no choice.”
The LTC will not refund registration fees but will instead offer:
  • Tabitha Miles for Meals Run: virtual run option and donation to Tabitha Meals on Wheels
  • Mayor's Run and 1-mile Tabitha Run: races will be counted toward the Kids' Grand Prix Grand Slammer award
  • Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon: virtual run option, 30% discount on 2021 race entry, and donations to the Food Bank of Lincoln and the Heartland Food Bank
“Because we have incurred expenses with each of these races, we cannot offer a complete registration refund,” Moss said. “But we know runners are very giving by nature and we want to help those who will be affected by this pandemic by providing meals. It is one way we can exemplify our mission and give back to our community.”This will be the first time in the 43-year history of the Lincoln Marathon the race will be canceled. The start has been delayed because of weather but the race has always been run. Also, this will be the second time the Mayor’s Run has been canceled in its 33-year history. The Lincoln Track Club was established in 1975 by an eager group of track enthusiasts as a nonprofit community service organization to promote running throughout the area and provide educational assistance for its runners. For over 40 years the LTC has stayed true to its roots as a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, and in 2019 gave $237,557 back to the community, including close to $164,000 to the Rebuild the Heartland Fund for flood relief efforts. The LTC is a member club of both the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and USA Track and Field.Health Resources:
