Race Recap: Holiday Run

December 8 was the 2019 Holiday Run at Pioneers Park to benefit Capital Humane Society. It was the largest Holiday Run yet and resulted in a gift of $6,000 to help unwanted pets on their journey to new homes. The run became a part of the Kids’ Grand Prix in 2019 and that certainly boosted the number of participants.I believe this event started approximately twenty years ago as the result of Ann Ringlein’s passion for helping homeless pets. The first year or two it was organized by Ann through the Athlete’s Foot and then the Lincoln Running Company.  Once the Lincoln Track Club became involved, it really took off. From 2009 to 2019 a total of $42,900 was raised. To put that in perspective, it would microchip 4,290 cats and dogs or provide basic vaccinations for 6,130 of them. The impact of those numbers is simply amazing.I want to thank Ann, the Lincoln Running Company, and the Lincoln Track Club for the help they have provided to Capital Humane Society during my tenure.  I will retire on June 30, 2020, after more than 36 years of service. I also want to thank all the runners who have participated in this event. Together we have made a difference.Bob DowneyPresident/CEO of Capital Humane SocietyPhotos by Kayla Wolf
