Havelock Run Race Recap
Oh what a beautiful morning . . .That could have been the theme song for this year’s Havelock Charity Run, as the weather was near perfect. And the spectacular weather paved the way for some exceptional performances, including two runners breaking the 32-minute mark for the 10k and two other runners breaking the 9-minute mark for the 3k. Here is your race director’s report:Nearly seven hundred people shared the streets of Havelock Saturday morning, June 2, as they participated in the 40th Annual Havelock Charity Run, presented by Pinnacle Bank. The cooler that average temperatures resulted in some spectacular times, including the top three women finishers in the 3k: Erica Doering (10:01), Hanna Hegemann (10:33), and Anna Dilley (10:51). On the Men’s side, your top three were Tim Grundmayer (8:47), Tim Meyer (8:53), and Parker Schoen (9:21). In the 10k race, your top three women were Mary Hillis (38:12), Katherine Sheridan (40:29), and Hannah Awtry (41:10). On the men’s side, Johnny Rutford (31:13), Nolan Boarder (31:51), and Nolan Zimmer (32:28).We also had a near record number of teams participate this year with close to seventy total! Our gracious sponsor will be making a $75 donation to every team’s designated charity, and a $100 donation for any team who beat their Corporate 3k and 10k teams. This will result in $5,500 being donated to local charities. Not too shabby if I do say so myself! As you also know, this was the 40th year for the Havelock Charity Run. We celebrated by hanging commemorative medals around every participant’s neck, giving every 40th finisher a bottle of Gatorade, and adding some throwback graphics to our T-shirt design. For those of you old enough to remember 1978, here are a few other fun facts about what was happening in our world back then:
- A gallon of gas was 63 cents
- A dozen eggs were 48 cents
- The Cold War was at an all-time high
- Argentina won the World Cup
- Star Wars, Episode IV took the world by storm
- Olivia Newton John and John Travolta were tearing up the charts
- I was two years old, how old were you?
I would like to thank all of the participants and volunteers for making the 40th Annual Havelock Charity Run a huge success. I look forward to the iconic race being here for another 40 years!Click here for complete results! And check out the Pinnacle Bank Facebook page for more photos.
